🪷 Kbal Spean – The Valley of 1000 Lingas (11th-Century Sacred Site)
Kbal Spean, located in Siem Reap province, is an extraordinary archaeological sanctuary dating back to the 11th century. Built during the reign of King Suryavarman I and later reinforced under King Udayadityavarman II, the site showcases Baphuon-style artistry and was dedicated to both Shiva and Vishnu.
Situated about 50 km from Siem Reap city and 17–18 km from Banteay Srei Temple, Kbal Spean is famously known as the “Valley of 1000 Lingas.” Hundreds of lingas and yonis are carved directly into the riverbed and surrounding stone walls, symbolizing prosperity, purity, divine blessings, and the sacred rejuvenation of water.

Khmer ancestors believed that water flowing across the sacred lingas at Kbal Spean would gain divine purity. This blessed water was believed to bring:
