Master Plan to Develop Huge Sihanoukville

🏖️ Master Plan to Develop Huge Sihanoukville Beach — The Rise of “Madam Mao Beach”

Preah Sihanouk provincial authorities are preparing a major master plan to develop the coastline — especially the new 15 km stretch from Sihanoukville Autonomous Port to “Chumteav Mao” (Madam Mao Beach). According to the provincial tourism director, Taing Sochet Krisna, this new beach is large enough for major development and will become an important new public zone for tourism.

🌅 Why Madam Mao Beach Matters

Many of the older bays in Sihanoukville are already crowded and difficult to expand. Madam Mao Beach is a rare new coastal area that offers wide space and potential for infrastructure, recreation, and tourism activities.

🏗️ Planned Infrastructure & Development

  • New access roads
  • Public restrooms
  • Parking areas
  • Green parks
  • Volleyball courts
  • Beach activity zones
  • Improved sanitation systems

Once completed, the study will be submitted to the Provincial Council and the National Committee for Coastal Management and Development (NCDD).

📉 Tourism Numbers

From January to April, international visitors were nearly absent due to global conditions. Those who did visit were mostly locals or foreigners currently living in Cambodia. The number of foreign visitors reached 161,750 — an 18% decrease from 2019.
